When starting a motor, a soft starter device is the mechanism which enables a gentle acceleration of the motor up to full speed. It is typically used with AC electrical motors to temporarily reduce the load and torque in the powertrain and electric current surge of the motor during the start-up phase. A soft starter continuously controls the motor’s voltage supply during start-up, adjusting to the machine’s load behaviour and ensuring mechanical operating equipment is accelerated smoothly. This lengthens service life of the motor, improves operating behaviour, and smooths out workflows.
The Solcon range of soft starters available from CSE Uniserve are optimised for applications that require a low starting current and/or a high starting torque.
